Bengaluru-based online gaming startup Hypernova Interactive has secured an undisclosed amount of funding from Kae Capital, marking its first investment in a gaming company.
With the raised funds, the Hypernova Interactive team aims to build an Esports ecosystem for mobile. The online gaming startup also plans to scale their current games in markets like China and the US.
“We believe that mobile games, especially those that capitalise on multiplayer and esports, is a large and rapidly growing market. We believe the Hypernova team matches up to the standards set by top global gaming companies, both in their execution capabilities, and their overall vision,” Shubhankar Bhattacharya, Venture Partner, Kae Capital said.
Hypernova Interactive was founded in 2015 by Mayur Bhimjiyani and Huzaifa Arab who have earlier worked as game designers at online gaming startups Zynga and Hike, respectively.
The company has launched two games so far. The first one, War Tanks, is an online real-time multiplayer game where players can battle other players from around the world with cool tanks in a live arena. The second game was launched last week on Android. Both the games have done quite well in markets like the US and China.
Hypernova Interactive is currently working on a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) title for mobile, where they are redefining the genre with a revolutionary approach.
“With growing internet penetration, our belief is that Indian audiences are also developing global tastes. Hence, what works for a global audience would also work in India,” said Mayur.
Kae Capital is one of India’s leading early stage investors that invests in companies, which bring about innovative solutions for the existing gaps in the markets. The venture firm has invested in Parentune, Learntron, Popicom, Azuro, WOTU, and ListUP to name a few.
