AT&T Launches amiGO Jr. Phone for Kids with Built-in Parental Controls

AT&T has announced the amiGO Jr. Phone, a smartphone designed specifically for children in partnership with Samsung. The focus here isn’t performance or high-end features, but safety, simplicity, and giving parents better control over how their kids use a smartphone. The phone is part of AT&T’s family-focused lineup and has been launched alongside the amiGO Jr. Watch 2.

The amiGO Jr. Phone is meant to serve as a child’s first smartphone. It offers basic connectivity features like calling and messaging, while avoiding the unrestricted access that comes with a regular smartphone.

AT&T has built parental controls directly into the experience. Using the free AT&T amiGO app, parents can manage screen time, approve or block apps, control contacts, and track their child’s location from their own Android or iOS devices.

There are also features like Safe Zones, which notify parents if a child leaves a set area, and School Mode, which helps limit distractions during school hours.

Safety and Simplicity Over Specs

AT&T hasn’t gone into hardware details for the amiGO Jr. Phone, and that seems deliberate. The priority here is usability rather than performance—a simple interface, durable design, and features that make sense for younger users.

Children get access to basic smartphone functions, while parents remain in control of how the device is used.

amiGO Jr. Watch 2

AT&T has also announced the amiGO Jr. Watch 2, aimed at younger children who may not yet need a smartphone. The smartwatch supports calling, messaging, and location tracking, along with a small selection of built-in games.

Price and Availability

The amiGO Jr. Phone and amiGO Jr. Watch 2 are available in the US starting at $2.99 per month when added to eligible AT&T wireless plans.

The amiGO Jr. Phone gives parents a more controlled way to introduce smartphones to children. Instead of relying on third-party apps and manual restrictions, key safety features are built into the device from the start.
