Celebrating Yoga App launched to encourage people for scientifically healthy living

The International Yoga day is being celebrated today and in recognition of the occasion, Harsh Vardhan, the Minister of Science and Technology launched the Celebrating Yoga App.

The app has been developed with an aim to encourage people to participate in a scientifically healthy living and to popularize Yoga, currently available for the Android user. It acts as a platform to share yoga related events with others. Unlike the other apps in google play, this app does not provide users information regarding Asanas and exercises.

This App will help to promote International yoga day by acting as a platform for Yoga enthusiasts to connect with mass events being organized in public places, schools, offices etc. One can create his/her own yoga event using the app. You just need to open the menu option in the app and on the top on share your event, provide the requisite information.

Celebrating Yoga App has options to upload multiple photos to create a gallery of events. Once all the requisite information are filled and photos are uploaded click on the submit button to create your own International Yoga day event. You can review whether your event is available on the celebrating Yoga app by clicking on the View your event Tab. It may take 3 hours for the event to go live on the app. Also, the event will show up on google maps – based in-app map. The Government official said, the information gathered through the app will be shared subsequently to Ministry of AYUSH.

Separately, under the Cognitive Science Research Initiative (CSRI), the department of science and technology has launched a research programme called Science and Technology of Yoga and Meditation (SATYAM). It says that yoga can contribute in a holistic way to derive integrated benefits and also that yoga and meditation are interdisciplinary endeavors that interface with neuroscience, medicine, psychology, engineering, philosophy etc.

We hope this initiative conducted by the Science and Technology Department will bring a significant change in people’s lifestyle and would be able to live scientifically healthy.
