How to activate DND on your mobile number – Jio, Vodafone, Airtel, others

We often receive unwanted promotional calls and messages. Sometimes these calls come in so often that it becomes frustrating. However, with a simple yet important setting, you can get rid of all these troubles. With TRAI’s DND initiative, it has become easier for mobile customers in India to block unwanted promotional calls or SMS. If you activate DND, no telemarketer is allowed to send promotional SMS or calls to DND activated numbers.

The DND service offered by TRAI is completely free and your telecom operator will not charge a single penny to activate it on your phone number. It usually takes 4 to 7 days for DND service to start on your phone number once activated. And, you are always free to deactivate DND at any time if you wish.

How to activate DND

It is very easy to activate the DND service on your phone number. However, different telecom networks have their own way of enabling DND. There is also a common way to activate DND using SMS or Call.

In this article, I will go through the different ways to enable DND on your phone number but let’s explore the common methods first.

1. Activate DND via SMS

The easiest and most common way to active DND is via SMS. To activate the DND services, open the messaging app and type Start 0. Now send this to 1909. It will completely block all the promotional calls on your number however if you want to activate it partially then, there are other options as well.

As mentioned, there are different DND codes for partial and complete DND. You can see below the list of different DND codes. Now, you can use them as per your choice.

2. Activate DND via call

You can also activate DND through a phone call. To activate it via call, open your phone’s dialer app and dial 1909. Now you have to follow the instructions to activate DND on your phone number.

3. Other Ways to Activate DND – Airtel, Vodafone and Jio

As we have mentioned, various telecom operators also have their own dedicated ways of activating DND. Let’s take a look at that.

1. Activate DND on Airtel

Open the DND page on the Airtel website. Then look for Airtel Mobile Services and click on the Click Here link. It will redirect you to another page where your airtel phone number will be asked. Here you have to enter the phone number and then click on the Get OTP button. Now enter the OTP you received and finally select the ‘Stop All’ option, and click on the ‘Submit’ button.

2. Activate DND on Vodafone

Like Airtel, Vodafone too has a dedicated DND page on its website. Click on the link and it will redirect you to the page. Now, enter your phone number and then click on Send OTP button. Now enter the OTP you received and then select Done and click on submit button. DND will be activated on your number.

3. Activate DND on Jio

If you are using the Jio network and have the My Jio app installed on your smartphone then it is going to be very easy for you. Open the My Jio app on your smartphone and then tap on the hamburger (three times) icon at the top-left corner. Now select the ‘Profile and other settings’ option and tap on ‘Do Not Disturb’ and ‘Set Priority’. Select the preference and submit the request.
