SwiftKey includes an additional nine Indian languages in new updates

Today SwiftKey Keyboard for Android introduces adaptive layouts for an additional nine Indian languages as a free app update (5.3.2); these are Bengali, Punjabi, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, Assamese, Oriya, Konkani and Manipuri. SwiftKey already supports adaptive layouts across all languages that use the Devanagari, Tamil and Gujarati scripts.

The new reimagined layouts mean much more intuitive, clearer and easier typing for speakers of these Indian languages. At SwiftKey’s core is an engine that learns from and adapts to every individual user and this concept is reinforced in our new keyboard layouts.

In addition to a row of contextually relevant word predictions, as present in all languages on SwiftKey, these layouts also include a set of contextually aware keys. The layout of these non-contextually-aware keys maintain the structure of the active language, mimicking how Hindi speakers would have been taught the language at school to make the experience more intuitive.

Other improvements to the user experience include access to characters on the secondary layout via pressing and holding the key in the same position on the primary layout. These clearer layouts mean SwiftKey can be more certain of the character a user intended to enter, resulting in a significant improvement in the correction and prediction quality of the SwiftKey keyboard.

Finally for all you emoji-lovers out there, you’ll be pleased to hear that we have also added emoji prediction for a raft of Indian languages including Bengali, Punjabi, Kannada, Telugu, Assamese, Oriya, Sinhala and Urdu. You can update your SwiftKey Keyboard app on Google Play to have access to all these benefits and more. We’re delighted that almost all of our Indian languages are now available for our users in these innovative new layouts If you have any feedback we’d love to hear it – we’re working hard to keep improving our product for all of our Indian users so keep giving us feedback in our VIP community on what you think of our product so far – we’re always listening.
